Family photo

I heard and then followed a busy long-tailed tit, hoping for a photo. I was not disappointed as it lead me to its 9 chicks sitting on a branch.

While the nesting attempts of these tits often fail, they either try again or help relatives with their nesting attempt. This additional family help can lead to up to 12 surviving juveniles.

A photo of a small songbird with very long tail feathers clinging to a branch. On the branch are 9 chicks, waiting to be fed, a few of them with open beaks. The adult is seen slightly from the side in the middle of the branch, slightly below the chicks. The chicks perching on the branch look a bit chaotic with two facing the other direction.

The long-tailed tit has a white/grey belly and black wings with brown and white accents. The black and white tail feathers are as long as the rest of the body.

One of these is not like the others.

One Tasmanian Native Hen chick, and two, presumably Mallard ducklings. (I saw presumably Mallard, as there were multiple mallard adults in the vicinity).

A tiny black ball of fluff with a beak. A yellow mallard duckling swimming and constantly chirping looking for its parents.
It is completely yellow and clearly the inspiration for the classic yellow bath duck.
A slightly older mallard duckling, standing upright like "Jemima Puddleduck". It is almost completely brown, but has a yellow neck. The same brown mallard duckling, this time swimming. It is brown with a yellow neck and has water droplets on its head and back.
