Perhaps for me the combination of #Rawtherapee and something like #XnviewMP (which I registered long ago anyway) is a better solution for my photographic workflow - compared to #Darktable.
This afternoon I totally sucked on an edit of an image (Canon 5D MK II) from Sardegna. Then I installed Rawtherapee 5.10 and the job was done in about 3 minutes. Everything appeared logical and intuitive to me. With very good results.
Made me think..

Rawtherapee has the auto matched cuve which imitates the jpeg which is a better starting point for many photographers. In darktable you have the real raw
Bah, autocurve. Only use it if I want to simulate a supernova in my photos ;-) (always results in too much with my camera, don't know why)
why "Pardon"? I did not say anything that went against what you wrote. To the contrary, happy user of RawTherapee here, for the last 15 years :-)

Well according to the official documentation the auto matched curve compares the raw and the embedded jpeg and creates a curve that mimics the appearance of the embedded jpeg if applied to the raw
